Researchers from the Ono Academic College have found that elderly individuals experiencing hearing loss face an increased risk of falls and fractures, some of which are life-threatening. The study revealed that for every 10-decibel decrease in hearing, the risk of falling increased by 1.4 times. Findings also indicate that changes in hearing correlate with a decline in balance at a much younger age than previously reported. Experts recommend that elderly individuals with deteriorating hearing undergo balance assessments.
