Clinical Experiences of Communication Disorders Students in Community Audiology Treatment Centers
As part of their undergraduate studies in the Department of Communication Disorders, students engaged in various clinical experiences at treatment centers. The “Community Audiology” program, unique to Ono Academic College, collaborates with the educational-therapeutic center for hard of hearing and deaf students in the Tel Aviv district, providing professional solutions for school-age children with hearing loss.
As part of the program, students from the Department of Communication Disorders set goals related to auditory perception and language within the child’s natural environment, employing an ecological approach. Students are supported by both the professional staff at the educational-therapeutic center and the faculty from the Department of Communication Disorders at Ono Academic College. The program enables students to integrate and apply the theoretical knowledge they’ve studied within the child’s natural environment. The program also helps children enhance their auditory and language learning skills through various activities in their natural environment, facilitated by students who possess a therapeutic orientation and solid theoretical knowledge.
At the end of the program, a festive closing event is held, attended by the children, their parents, students, and the program’s leading staff. During the meeting, an exhibition showcases products created during the collaborative sessions between the children and students. Below are two examples of items from the project.
