Learning Goals
  1. To understand that the Beta Israel considers itself a “living repository” of biblical pre-Talmudic Jewish life
  2. To understand the Beta Israel’s atti- tudes toward the following philoso- phies and values: Faith (and doubt) in G-d; the goodness of humanity; the importance of respect; interpersonal relationships; and the concepts of spontaneity and individuality
Intended Grades/AgesGrades 9-10 (ages 13-16)
Lessons per UnitApproximately 3-4 lessons x 60 minutes

Below is a step-by-step procedure for teachers, recommending content and methods of instruction. We suggest dividing the content into three to four lessons. Our recommendation is for each lesson to take about 60 minutes, but this timeframe will vary per classroom. As a general guideline for pacing lessons:

Lesson 1 should include Starter, Beta Israel as a “Living Repository,” and Faith (and Doubt) in G-d

Lesson 2 should cover both The Goodness of Humanity and Respect

Lesson 3 should explore Interpersonal Relationships and conclude with Spontaneity & Individuality
