Ono Celebrates Israel’s 76th Independence Day

The Independence Day of the State of Israel is a national holiday commemorating the declaration of the establishment of the State of Israel at the end of the British Mandate period, in 1948.

Independence Day is celebrated on the 5th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar and is marked immediately after the conclusion of the Memorial Day for Fallen Security Forces and Civilians.

Independence Day is typically celebrated by a series of ceremonies and official events (parades, flyovers, concerts, awards ceremonies, a national bible quiz, etc.)  and is a national work holiday. This year however, due to the ongoing war and the holding of 132 Israeli hostages by Hamas in Gaza, celebrations across the country, and at Ono itself have been muted.

Happy Independence Day to all of Israel. May we be able to celebrate next year’s Independence Day, together with our returned hostages, with joy and gratitude.
