During the 2024-2025 academic year, Ono Academic College’s School of Music will hold a special series of concerts in collaboration with the Israeli Symphony Orchestra of Rishon LeZion and under the musical direction of Maestro Yaron Gottfried.
The series includes 6 fascinating meetings featuring a lecture and a concert in a variety of styles and works from the world of symphonic music. The lectures will be delivered by senior lecturers from Ono’s School Music, and the concerts will be performed by the Rishon LeZion Symphony Orchestra, with a combination of soloists and guest artists conducted by Yaron Gottfried.
Lectures begin at 18:15 and the concerts begin at 20:00.
The series will take place in Ono Academic College’s concert hall located at 1 Academic Boulevard, Kiryat Ono
The program is as follows:
- 12/23/2024 “A short story meets a work and a poem” – A unique meeting combining Etgar Keret’s short stories with works by Schubert, Mahler and Eric Satie. Keret’s stories, which combine reality and imagination, will be presented alongside musical pieces chosen as their inspiration, creating an interesting connection or contrast.
- 16/01/2025 “Soloist and orchestra” – The concerto is a beloved and popular form of music, in which a solo instrument plays together with a full orchestra, usually in three movements. This session will deal with the relationship between the soloist and the orchestra and will include examples from the important concerts of composers like: Mozart – Piano Concerto in A major and Saint-Saëns – Cello Concerto
- 20/02/2025 “The world of the symphony” – In this meeting we will get to know the symphony as a musical form. We will understand its importance and the reason why many composers liked to write symphonies. We will learn about the great moments in the history of the symphony, with a focus on Prokofiev’s “Classical” First Symphony in B flat major, Op. 25 and Beethoven’s – Fifth Symphony, “Fate” in C minor, Opus 67
- 04/07/2025 “N.Y. Symphonic Jazz Night” – In the meeting we will explore the influence of jazz, which developed in the early 20th century, on composers such as Gershwin and Bernstein, who incorporated elements of the genre in their works. We will get to know the structure of jazz pieces. We will learn about swing and improvisation, and we will review works that connect classical music with jazz.
- 08/05/2025 “Spain vs. Brazil” – The meeting will focus on Spanish music full of passion and stormy rhythms, and the influence of history on the development of Brazilian and Latin music, including styles such as bossa nova, samba and choro. We will discuss the important works and composers, and how Latin music influenced orchestral music.
- 07/17/2025 “Gala evening of the best Israeli classics” – Presents a spotlight on the great composers and creators of the Hebrew songbook through songs that shaped the Israeli soundtrack and became classics. Artists featured include: Masha Argov, Moshe Vilansky, Dobi Seltzer, Mati Caspi, Danny Sanderson, Idan Reichel and more. The program includes special symphonic arrangements written by students in the music school’s screen and stage composition track.
