Director of Ethiopian Center Featured Speaker at Soldier’s Memorial Ceremony

Rabbi Dr. Sharon Shalom, the founder and director of Ono Academic College’s International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Studies offered the keynote address at an evening in memory of Shai Garmai, HY”D, a soldier, hero of Israel and a daughter of the city of Carmiel.

Garmai was killed while conducting a military operation in the West Bank city of Jenin during the “Iron Swords” war.

Rabbi Shalom presented a lecture on the topic of the late Garmai’s short but very meaningful life, entitled, “A Jewish and Human Zionist Story of the Modern Age: The Story of the Shai Garmai.”

Also presenting at the event were Mayor Mr. Moshe Koninsky, Garmai’s parents, Vared and Shlomi Garmai, and two Keisim (Traditional Ethiopian Spiritual Leaders): Keis Shahar Yahais and Keis Ephraim Lavi.
