Yahya Mahamid, a young Arab-Israeli leader, educator, and Israel advocate, was profiled in a Times of Israel column by Sherwin Pomerantz. He graduated Ono Academic College with a B.Ed. degree with a major in non-profit/public/organizational management.
Mahamid, who defies stereotypes and embraces a mission of peace and understanding was born in Umm Al Fahm, and was raided with anti-Zionist sentiments but questioned these positions following personal interactions with Israelis.
Mahamid faced backlash and threats after a viral photo showed him with the Israeli flag in 2014. However, he continues his important work to create understanding between Jews and Arabs. He went on to serve as a volunteer firearms instructor in the IDF and later was recruited for a special delegation in Dubai that worked toward the Abraham Accords.
Today, Mahamid promotes Israeli-Palestinian peace as a project manager at Diploact, (https://www.diploact.com/en) an advocacy organization that aims to shape and improve the public perception of Israel. He also serves as a mentor in various programs and works to empower and integrate youth from Israel’s Arab minority.
