Israel’s national accreditation body, the Council for Higher Education (CHE), organized conference, entitled “Learning about Advanced Degrees and Research for Ethiopian Israelis,” featuring an Ono Academic College instructor, graduate and the founder of Ono’s Ethiopian study center.
MK Dr. Tsega Melaku, provided the conference’s opening remarks. She is an Israeli author, journalist, community activist and politician currently serving as a member of the Knesset for Likud. She is also an Ono lecturer.
The conference’s moderator was Ms. Almaz Zaro, an Ono graduate who is also an author, lawyer, member of the CHE and a member of its steering committee for Ethiopian-Israeli academic excellence. This year Zaro is also a participant in Ono’s Beit Midrash for the Study of Beta Israel texts.
Rabbi Dr. Sharon Shalom, founder and director of Ono Academic College’s International Center for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry, served as the conference’s keynote speaker. His lecture was entitled, “My Personal Story of Challenges and Success.”
