Ono Academic College hosted pianist, composer and arranger, Tom Oren for a master class in its concert auditorium at its new campus in Kiryat Ono.
Tom Oren is the only Israeli to have won the world’s most prestigious jazz piano competition named after Thelonious Monk (now named after Herbie Hancock), in which he was judged by Herbie Hancock himself.
Following the win, Tom became a signed artist with the historic record company ‘Concord’.
Tom has performed on prestigious international stages, including a solo piano performance at the legendary Newport Festival, and in 2021 he was announced as a candidate for the Ophir Award for the music he wrote for Avi Nesher’s film, “The Image of Victory”.
In the master class Tom shared his personal story and demonstrated how his love for a variety of styles, such as classical music, jazz, Israeli and folk music, shapes his work.
In addition, Tom took part in Tamir Greenberg’s performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by the director of Ono’s School of Music, Maestro Yaron Gottfried.
