Ono Academic College’s Multicultural Campuses in Jerusalem and its International Center for the Study of of Ethiopian Jewry are hosted an emergency conference entitled “A Double Civil War?”
The conference addressed the renewed civil war in Ethiopia and the crises it is causing among Ethiopian-Jewish immigrants in Israel.
Since last November, the conflict between the Federal government of Ethiopia and the rulers of the Northern Tigray region has been accelerating. Severe atrocities have taken place and millions have been displaced from their homes. This conflict, which affects many Ethiopian Israelis who still have relatives in the region, has even caused rifts within the Beta Israel community in Israel who support opposing sides in this Ethiopian civil war.
We discussed these issues at the emergency conference and tried to understand our responsibilities as Israelis, Ethiopian and non-Ethiopian, to prevent these two civil wars, here and there.
The Emergency Conference took place via Zoom on Thursday 18.2.2021 between 17:00 and 20:00.
